babies

i was randomly walking today (the weather today, by the way, was BEAUTIFUL - i'm sure many people would beg to differ, seeing as how it was...well, cold, but i LOVE cold, beautiful weather), and i just saw...

this woman with two asian babies in one of those double-carriage things. the two baby-toddlers were fast asleep, but the cutest part was that their heads were leaning in towards each other!!!! and the boy was wearing blue and the girl was wearing pink.

how could that NOT brighten up your day??
ADORBS!!

haiti

after the earthquake happened in haiti a week ago, i'm completely ashamed to admit that i did absolutely nothing. i don't know why, but it wasn't like last time, when an earthquake devastated the area around sichuan and i literally organized an entire community garage sale. during those weeks, i scoured the news daily, reading every article i could, learning about, hurting for, these people. this time, though...for some reason...i don't know if i felt busy with school, or was too preoccupied with my own selfishness - i don't know what it was, but the compassion and caring i prided myself on that year was missing.

but there came an opportunity for me to take action. penn for unicef has a campaign going on where if you donate a dollar, you can sign a petition. the goal is to get 1000 signatures on the petition, because IF we're able to - which i really hope we are - there are penn professors who have pledged to donate at least $20 (some have even pledged $200!) to haiti.

so as part of it, i just went up and down the four floors of kings court (someone else is covering part of english house later). i was so pleasantly surprised by how eager and willing people were to donate to haiti. although i suppose i shouldn't have been that surprised. i was probably just extra surprised because of the not eager way i personally reacted to it.

anyway, it is really heart-warming to see people so enthusiastically donate and sign the petition for haiti. obviously, it's hard not to have heard about such a sad event happening on such an enormous scale, but while a dollar seems so little to some of us, it is precisely the thought, the action, the wanting to help others that's gonna go such a long way for humanity. HURRAY!!

so...thank you to the wonderful people who donated money or signed the petition. :) :) :) :) :)

i just got back from china a couple of days ago (blogspot was blocked. sad). things that made me smile on my trip:

1) love. there is no greater feeling than love. i'll just leave it at that.
2) one time, we got in a cab, and unlike other cab drivers who just want your money, this cab driver was like, "if you cross the street and get a cab, it'll be going in your direction, so it'll be cheaper. so you guys should get off and cross the street and take the other one. what an honest and nice person :)
3) on my way back (on the long long flight), as we were landing, there was a little girl sitting way behind me, and i kept hearing her little voice exclaim: "oh my gosh!! look! it's so beeeauuutiful!!" over and over. it was SO cute...the girl must've been about six or seven. AHHH.
4) while i was waiting to get picked up from the airport, i was squatting by my luggage (looking for something) and i didn't have one of those carts, so i must've looked like i just had a ton of stuff. this random guy walked up to me and said, "miss? there's a cart over there." i was like "oh, thank you! but i'm just waiting to get picked up." but it was so nice of him :)

lovee.
